What You'll Get
If exploring the world were best done on land, man would never have learned to nocturnally navigate by following the light glinting off a narwhal’s horn. Take to the high seas of adventure with today's Groupon: for $40, you get one Seals and Sea Otter Watch by Kayak: Elkhorn Slough trip from Blue Water Ventures in Moss Landing (up to an $80 value). After purchasing this Groupon, customers are asked to contact Blue Water Ventures and reserve a spot on their desired date. Click here for available dates.
Owned by naturalist and kayaking enthusiast Kim Powell, Blue Water Ventures ferries guests through the protected waters of the Elkhorn Slough National Marine Estuary to learn about the area's ecology and observe the wildlife firsthand. Day trips last from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with patrons of any skill level sharing stable double sea kayaks and their favorite childhood movies. Throughout the exploration of the tidal creeks, keen eyes can spot the various sea otters, sea lions, harbor seals, and ghostly Seabiscuits that inhabit the area as the naturalist guide explains the unique features of the slough. A short picnic on one of the nearby shores allows guests to eat the lunch they brought with them before paddling back out onto the water.
Blue Water Ventures recommends dressing in layers with a windbreaker or paddling jacket, bringing shoes that can get wet, and wearing pants other than jeans. A hat with a visor, sunscreen, and sunglasses are also recommended to keep the rays of Earth's nearest star from gatecrashing the excursion.

About Blue Water Ventures
Blue Water Ventures owner and naturalist Kim Powell and her trained staff of naturalists lead adventurous groups on tours of trails and waterways from the East Bay of California to Monterey's Elkhorn Slough, exploring caves, forests, and wildlife-rich areas on the way. On protected Elkhorn Slough, groups of up to 22 make their way on stable kayaks as their attentive tour guides give rich history of the area and point out wildlife including seals and sea otters. In Florida's Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge, groups snorkel and canoe to observe wild west indian manatees and their notorious poker habits.
The company also does specialty tours for school groups that include tide-pooling adventures and trekking through a redwood forest to see some of the country's oldest trees. Tours for women-only groups include private cruises where ladies can spy whales and a variety of seaborne wildlife, including fish, dolphins, and long-lost swim fins.
