Q:

I'm Filipino , 29 years old and I have a medium skin tone. I have dark brown acne marks on my face. Would you recommend me getting the microdermabrasion or the LED light treatment?

michelle s.  asked on  Nov 29, 2012

A:

So long as you do not currently have acne, I would recommend the microdermabrasion package so that we can work on exfoliation and resurfacing. However - if you DO still have acne, then microdermabrasion is not a good option and I would go with the LED package. It won't exfoliate, but it WILL lift the hyperpigmentation. ~Gigi

More Questions and Answers

Q:

Will the results of lighting the dark spots on my face have a better chance of lighting up with microdermabrasion treatment rather than the led light?

michelle s.  asked on  Nov 29, 2012

A:

Hi Michelle! Hyperpigmentation is a common issue I treat in my studio and there are multiple ways of addressing it based on certain factors: cause (acne related, sun damage, melasma), depth, duration and amount (of hyperpigmentation). I almost always recommend that we do some LED treatments in order to lift that melanin (pigment) from the pigment cell, start breaking it up and move it closer to the surface where we can then begin to work on exfoliation. Microdermabrasion is an excellent mechanical exfoliation - but unless that pigment is sitting right at the surface of the skin, it's not going to help with the dark spots. Great question and I hope I've helped! ~Gigi

Q:

how many treatments will i need to see results for acne skin? will the 1 treatment show me any results right away? do they apply the led only on the acne parts and not the whole face? if i purchase the 3 treatments, can i use one and 2 for my friends?

J R.  asked on  Nov 29, 2012

A:

Hi JR! One of the nice things about LED is that it's a progressive, cumulative modality - so the results keep building on each treatment! BUT - because it works on the cellular level, it's not an "instant" result. LED is best done as a series of treatments - again, so you are reaping the benefit of that cumulative effect. The entire face receives the treatment, not just the affected area. And if you were to purchase a series of 3, all treatments must be used by the same person. Great questions, thanks! ~Gigi
