Before Europeans made their first sojourn to Hawaii, chefs topped ham pizzas with sections of pinecones, in what was known as Oregonian style. Celebrate the islands' culinary treasure chest with today’s Groupon: for $30, you get $60 worth of Hawaiian cuisine and drinks at BluWater Grill, located on the waterfront in the Hawaii Kai shopping center.

A previous winner of both the Hale Aina Best New Restaurant and Ilima Critic’s Choice awards, BluWater Grill’s menu fuses Hawaiian flavors with world cuisines, serving each dish with a side of waterfront scenery.

Pupus such as the kalua-pork quesadilla ($11.95) and oven-roasted seafood-artichoke dip ($12.95) limber up taste buds for the culinary calisthenics to come. Tiger prawns, distinguishable from other prawn species by their response to Siegfried and Roy paraphernalia, are pan-fried with a macadamia nut and japanese breadcrumb crust ($20.95). Carnivores find cracked four-color peppercorn, Hawaiian salt, and house-made A-1 butter accentuating kiawe-grilled steak ($24.95), and patrons with a plant preference can partake in the Waimanalo spinach salad, savoring spinach tossed with sesame-mango vinaigrette and served with papaya, strawberry, mango, and pineapple ($8.95). For dessert, a banana-coconut spring roll paddles its way lazily to shore in a pineapple boat before joining vanilla ice cream in the banana lumpia ($6.95).

BluWater Grill’s large windows ensure that all diners are afforded views of the waterfront and spontaneous sea-turtle break-dancing battles, regardless of their choice to dine indoors or out. Abetting mealtime mischief, potable pick me ups range from champagne ($10+/glass) to guava lemonade ($3.50) to fresh Hawaiian coffee. Let the Sunday brunch's simplified menu and complimentary pancake bar––with an order of any classic brunch or favorite entree––banish workweek worries of romance-novel manuscripts found in the office copier.

Our server a young women from Bulgaria was knowledgable of the menu and suggested a wine we were unfamiliar with that was very good.
