What You'll Get
For $60, this side deal gets you three hours of fly-fishing lessons (an up to $120 value) from Bob White Springs, located about an hour southwest of Nashville in Only. Rookie rod-and-reelers get a three-hour lesson in trophy trout fishing ($30 per hour, per rod) or salmon fishing ($40 per hour, per rod), during which they'll learn about equipment, tying knots, casting, and how to properly pursue certain stream-dwellers.
With 25 years of experience under his wading belt, Bob Lukens is ready to pass on his piscatorial prowess to fishermen and women of all levels of expertise. The first hour of the lesson in fish abduction is spent on land, and the last two hours allow students to get their feet wet in the clear waters of beautiful Bob White Springs. The stream is a catch-and-release waterway, so while students may take home the memory of an Atlantic salmon giving in with a sigh of discontent, the fish itself will remain in the water completing crossword puzzles and eating TV dinners. All equipment is provided for the lesson, and up to three people at a time can take the lesson (each person must have his or her own Groupon or pay the full rate). Lessons are available daily; call ahead to reserve a time.
Tennessee Home & Farm has featured Bob White Springs:
- [Guide Steve Sylvis] says fishing the crystal-clear waters of Bob White Springs “is very instructive and educational. You can see your fly and how the fish react to it. You can study the fish. It’s a really neat place...for what it offers – a chance to hook, fight and land some really big fish on a small stream – it’s a unique opportunity." – Larry Woody
