Body Construction’s muscle mavens have served up sizzling platters of movement-centered CrossFit classes for more than 20 years. Trainers lead pupils in one-hour muscle-plumping workouts using CrossFit, the principal training program for those whose jobs depend on physical fitness, such as SWAT teams, firefighters, and birthday clowns. All exercises are scalable depending on ability, and trainers are licensed, insured, and CPR certified. Like a season of Love Boat, each session staves off brawn boredom by guest-starring different exercises and methods, such as raising chins above pull-up bars, lifting kegs, or hitting tires with a sledgehammer.
Roy Taylor wasn’t always an NASM-, NASCA-, AFAA-, and ACE-certified personal trainer. He was once a 6’5” kid who weighed 145 pounds. He combated his lankiness by working out, ultimately gaining 95 pounds of muscle. At Body Construction, which he founded in 1986, his current and former bodies both shape his personal training technique. Welcoming of all fitness levels, Roy and his trainers work with everyone from kids to members of the FBI. He leads intense, daily CrossFit classes as well as stocks his gym with machines and uses equipment such as tires, sledgehammers, and monkey bars during workouts.
