Body & Energy California
When Karen Howe Grant began teaching aerobics as a college student in 1981, she found her calling. Five years later, she opened Body & Energy California, and to this day, she continues to teach aerobics—now known as cardio dance—from the very same studio. During these classes, dance choreography is supplemented by light weights and stretching for a workout that keeps fitness seekers on the move. Yoga classes, meanwhile, blend different styles for a sequence of poses that builds flexibility and centers students in a way previously only achieved by sleeping on a see-saw. When muscles get sore, patrons can drop in for an orthopedic massage, which draws together Eastern and Western therapeutic techniques to help ease chronic pain and improve range of motion.
