Glass master Filip Vogelpohl welcomes students to his studio for a hands-on private glass-blowing class. Students spin molten glass around the tip of a long metal rod, and then mold and shape the glowing goo over the furnace’s open flames, pausing only to make room for impatient Boy Scouts roasting marshmallows. Students can personalize their projects by shaping one-of-a-kind glass into a paperweight, vase, mug, or bowl, and tinting it with vibrant colors. Alternatively, during torch-working sessions, students use a torch to melt the glass. Once glass is in a molten state, students form it by shaping it with tools and hand movements. Artwork includes pendants and different styles of jewelry.

Boise Art Glass

Prague-born Filip Vogelpohl kindled his passion for glass blowing within his Boise home garage. As his knack for flame-working increased, Vogelpohl left the garage and traveled the world, honing his craft under the tutelage of internationally renowned glass blowers. Now, Vogelpohl welcomes fledgling glass blowers into his studio for small group classes. He also invites spectators to watch the studio's artists as they shape molten glass and borosilicate into jewelry or vases, which then go up for sale in the gallery. On the first Thursday of every month, the furnaces keep firing until 9 p.m. during free glass-blowing demonstrations as a part of the First Thursday Art Walk.

Customer Reviews

Was an awesome experience! Took my sister and brother-in-law from out of town so that they could experience and on this particular type of Art and they loved it. I recommend it to anyone that's looking for something to do on that would be fun entertaining and even a new and great experience.
