"Get in shape" hovers near the top of many New Year's resolution lists, right next to "deal with raccoon infestation" and "figure out how raccoons get trapped in the TV." Stop watching so many TV shows starring raccoons with today's Groupon: for $25, you get a winter membership to Boise RunWalk (a $65 value). The program starts on January 7, and Groupon holders must redeem this deal by February 4.
Boise RunWalk’s winter training program charts progressively lengthy routes to prepare groups of runners for 10Ks, half marathons, and marathons. Corralling new athletes and seasoned runners alike, the 14-week program offers trainees three self-run weekday workouts and a coached training session on Saturdays. Runners tackle weekday sessions on their own or in groups; these sessions are measured in time, not mileage, and vary from season to season. On Saturday, joggers meet at 8 a.m. (7:30 a.m. starting mid-February) at Fort Boise Community Center, where a coaching discussion and a question-and-answer session help participants prepare for the day's warm-ups and longer run with topics such as proper running form, nutrition, injury prevention, and The Tortoise and the Hare. Following the excursion, RunWalkers can celebrate with a few minutes' worth of free sports massage rendered by a certified therapist.
Boise RunWalk's program is designed to boost runners toward their running goals, whether they hope to finish events such as the Race to Robie Creek Half Marathon, vomit triumphantly at the end of the Famous Idaho Potato Marathon, or walk to the mailbox a thousand times in a single day.
