Moving from America to Australia changed Jack Fennell's life in many ways, but none more so than his discovery of the traditional Aussie meat pie. He fell in love with their flaky crusts and the savory fillings that line the inside of the handheld pies. He made every visitor he had try them, and reactions were overwhelming positive. In fact, his friends and family enjoyed them so much that Jack decided to bring the meat pies back to Austin with him.

Jack opened Boomerang's Pies in 2006, with a recipe for made-from-scratch crust and few ideas about fillings. Today, the eatery offers more than ten flavors of pies, ranging from traditional Guinness steak and potatoes to curry vegetables to grilled chicken with adobo sauce. Jack's kitchen isn't the only place to get his pies anymore, either; the restaurant also caters events and even ships pies in the mail rather than the last branch of the Pony Express.
