About Border X Brewing
The craft brewery scene is rife with traditional, regional, and European flavors, but Latin-inspired flavors are tougher to come by. As Latinos, brothers Marcel and Martin with the help of their father Marcelino Favela and uncle David took that as an opportunity: they opened Border X Brewing with the goal of adding something different to the San Diego beer scene.
At their upbeat tap room in Barrio Logan, the Favela family does just that while churning out Latin-inspired Mexican craft beer. Here are a few of Border X's popular creations to try when you stop by:
- Blood Saison (ABV: 7.5%): Taking its cues from the Jamaican drink, this tart beer sports a red hue thanks to an ingredients list that includes real hibiscus, agave, and crystal malts.
- Abuelita's Chocolate Sout (ABV: 8%): Cinnamon and chocolate aromas emanate from this brew, whose smooth sips stem from a medium to heavy body and a dark, chocolatey color.
- Horchata Golden Stout (ABV: 9.5%): Its golden colors are reminiscent of California, and its full body is laced with notes of vanilla bean and whole cinnamon sticks.
