What You'll Get
In a pan-Asian restaurant, an undocumented worker's DIY tooth extraction leads to a stewardess surprised by an incisor in her soup, then evolves into an even more complicated chain of events in The Golden Dragon. Here, as these connections proliferate, the dark truths that lay just below the bustle of daily life are revealed. The play is distinctly modernist, playing with dramatic conventions. The players narrate their actions before enacting them, and the capable ensemble plays characters of different ages, genders, races -- and even species -- than themselves. Written by Roland Schimmelpfennig, Germany's most-produced playwright, the Southern California premiere of The Golden Dragon comes to Boston Court Performing Arts Center.
