Oscar-winning director Michael Curtiz (Casablanca) also helmed this 1924 Austrian silent-film epic, which tells the Exodus story through the eyes of a Jewish slave girl who's in love with the son of the Pharaoh. Screening as part of the Boston Jewish Film Festival, The Moon of Israel is famed for its grandeur and special effects, which were state of the art at the time. Award-winning Austrian pianist, composer and silent-film expert Gerhard Gruber provides the live accompaniment for this event at the Somerville Theatre.
