Two-time Grammy nominee Jennifer Frautschi tackles the technically-challenging Romantic Era favorite, Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, as she visits the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Benjamin Zander. Praised for her "lush, florid tone" (Kansas City Star), Frautschi's performed with major orchestras and festivals across the U.S. and Europe, after making her Carnegie Hall debut in '04. This BPO concert at Sanders Theater is set to open with Schumann's highly regarded Manfred Overture, based on a poem by Lord Byron, and reportedly written while the composer was suffering an episode of auditory hallucinations. Though best known for his Enigma Variations, British composer Edward Elgar's First Symphony debuted to acclaim in 1908, praised by The Evening Standard as "a work of rare beauty, sensibility, and humanity, a work understandable of all."
