On PhotoWalks' tours, guide Saba Alhadi provides historic commentary on Boston architecture and landscape staples such as brick sidewalks, vintage gas lamps, and flower-packed window boxes, and teaches up to 15 participants how to frame shots of everything from the Boston Public Library's Roman-style courtyard to Paul Revere's house.

On scavenger hunts, partners dart through the streets of Boston to find and shoot at least 10 out of the 15 locations on their hunting list. To get there, they follow cryptic clues such as "make your way to a former swampy land that's now an upscale neighborhood," "take a picture on the plaque at the start of the Boston Marathon," and "remove your lens cap to find this fascinating sight."

Saba Alhadi, a former travel agent, began building a photographic portfolio as she turned her lens on the city and developed photography walking tours through historic neighborhoods. Her book, Boston in Photographs, can be found on gift-shop shelves in the Old State House.

On each of her tours, she reveals historic details such as brick sidewalks, verdant cemeteries, a Romanesque courtyard, and flower-packed window boxes, and encourages those on her tour to look for unlikely subjects. Meanwhile, she interlaces the history with photo tips on how colors on different buildings complement each other, how a reflection of a historic church in a window can become a composition, and how to keep a historic interpreter from startling when the shutter goes off. She also devises scavenger hunts throughout Victorian neighborhoods, sending participants scattering to decode cryptic clues that draw on notable local facts, such as which districts were once home to wealthy citizens and which homes have pools in the backyard.
