PhotoWalks leads shutterbugs on a leisurely, 90-minute stroll through one of five different historic neighborhoods. Combining the age-old arts of storytelling and shooting things, knowledgeable guides dispense historical commentary as they teach photowalkers how to see the city with an eye to pictorial composition. Learn how to change your camera's aperture width to enunciate shafts of light on the turrets of Trinity Church during the Back Bay tour, or hear the bounty of biographies sheltered among the winding brick of Beacon Hill. The tours are conducted in groups of 15 to 25 but no more than 30 people, allowing guides to offer a personalized experience and answer specific questions about the more intricate aspects of the camera, like the soul centrifuge or lens cap. All skill levels are welcome on the tour; bring your own camera, or skip the snapshots and come along for the informative walk.

Warm-blooded wintertime walkers can explore the Back Bay, Beacon Hill, or the Freedom Trail and North End, and patient pictorialists can wait until summer, when tours of the Public Garden and the Waterfront come out of hibernation. Well-behaved pets are welcome on the tour but may find paws ill-equipped to adjust shutter speed. A quick glance at PhotoWalks's FAQ will answer all manner of logistical, regulatory, and metaphysical queries.

PhotoWalks

Saba Alhadi, a former travel agent, began building a photographic portfolio as she turned her lens on Boston and developed photography walking tours through historic neighborhoods in order to share her knowledge of Boston's history and inspire others to become better photographers by capturing the beauty that surrounds them.

On a given tour, she reveals historic details about Boston's hidden houses, the swamp that become a French-inspired neighborhood and public garden, and the famous patriots of the American Revolution. Meanwhile, she interlaces the history with creative photography tips on how to understand camera settings, how light strikes different buildings, and how a reflection in a window can become a composition. She also devises scavenger hunts throughout Boston, sending participants scattering to decode cryptic clues that draw on notable local facts.

Very nice

I would highly recommend PhotoWalks. Our group chose the Boston Gardens PhotoWalk, and Saba had so much information on the location as well as on getting the most out of our cameras. She worked with adults and children in our group and we all want to do it again!
