Everyone we dealt with at BRG was friendly, helpful, knowledgable, and we enjoyed our intro to rock climbing.

I loved the class. You really have to take it to fully utilize this gym. I like rock climbing so much I bought the 10 visits for $100 until I can buy my own gear :-)

I took the belaying class and learned so much! The information and instructions were thorough and very helpful. The instructor makes sure each person is comfortable with belaying before letting them go off on their own. The staff is very friendly and the gym is clean and well organized. I definitely recommend this gym to anyone!

What You'll Get

Trade grips and holds for nooks and crevices with today’s side deal: $55 for a full-day, outdoor rock-climbing course—a $135 value—from New England’s hub for the sport, the Boston Rock Gym. Like today’s featured deal, you don’t need to be a professional mountaineer to get your climb on, thanks to introductory and beginner’s classes. For experienced thrillists, there are also more advanced expeditions. Your Groupon is good toward any of the outdoor classes offered, including the more expensive upper-level sessions, but you’ll have to pay the difference of more than $135 (for example, a $155 class will cost one Groupon plus $20 per person).

Introductory classes cover the basics of outdoor climbing, including knot tying, belaying, and rappelling. Take the whole family outdoors for a day of fun with the family-oriented class, or try the female- focused Women Rock beginner’s class. For intermediate climbers, learn to climb more efficiently and higher with a class geared toward those ready to take basic skills to the next level. Advanced climbers can learn how to be the lead climber, scale more difficult facades, and nurse orphaned mountain-goat kids back to health. During the winter months, Boston Rock Gym offers various ice- and snow-climbing classes as well as basic mountaineering classes. If you’ve always wanted to tackle the chilly side of climbing, this Groupon provides a game-changing opportunity to whet your appetite for next year's cold snap.

American Mountain Guide Association–certified mountain lions teach all classes. Before booking your excursion, check the calendar for a complete schedule of classes.

Note: All participants need to sign a waiver prior to climbing, and a legal guardian must sign for climbers under 18.

Yelpers give Boston Rock Gym four stars:

  • I have no previous rock climbing experience and am quite scared of heights, but I had an absolutely fantastic, exhilarating time at the Boston Rock Gym. The staff was incredibly helpful, relaxed, and encouraging... – Alex S.
  • My climbing class was a success and went on to climbing for years to come!...I liked this place when I was first starting because it was great for beginners. It did have a lot of places for me to climb! Also, when I progressed and got better...It had plenty of marked off places for incredible climbing as well. – Kathy S.
  • The climbers are "real" enthusiasts...Here, you are part of a real community of climbers - an evolution nurtured by the new managment [sic]. – Charlie L.

About Boston Rock Gym

Certified by the American Mountain Guides Association, the staff of climbing instructors at Boston Rock Gym teach torsos how to ascend altitudes with indoor-, outdoor-, and youth-climbing activities. The savvy instructors lead the way around the facility’s more than 40 ropes, which set the stage for both group and private indoor lessons, as well as open climbing sessions in which self-guided climbers reach for neon-colored handgrips while being supported by auto-belay devices. Outdoors, students learn to navigate nature’s authentic slabs during lessons and clinics that start with the basics and graduate up to advanced ice-climb maneuvers. Additionally, the facility’s youth programs cater to smaller grips and aim to boost self-confidence while preparing children for the physical-fitness portion of the SAT.
