The Boulder Philharmonic takes note of some of their favorite composers' famous forebears in their latest Macky Auditorium concert, Spheres of Influence. Music Director Michael Butterman and the ensemble are set to be joined by popular violinist and recording artist Anne Akiko Meyers, Billboard's best-selling classical instrumentalist of the year in 2014 and star of an upcoming PBS special. The Los Angeles Times has praised her playing for its "vigorous mastery, unflinching technical skills and stylish elegance," which she'll no doubt demonstrate as she performs Mendelssohn's concerto, a Romantic work influenced by classical traditions. You'll also be treated to Mozartiana, Tchaikovsky's tribute to his idol, and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 9, with its hints of Haydn. And the concert kicks off with an exciting new work by the Music Alive composer-in-residence Missy Mazzoli, dubbed Sinfonia (for Orbiting Spheres).
