When Suman Kandagatla visited New Orleans' famed Bourbon Street, he never wanted to leave. And in a way, he never did. Even though he returned to his native Kansas City, he brought back an ample supply of Cajun and Creole culture, cuisine, and cocktails, soon opening up his own restaurant named after the thoroughfare that inspired him.
Most nights, Suman can be found greeting guests out front, as well as supervising the busy kitchen, where chefs prepare everything from fried green tomatoes to crawfish boils to alligator appetizers. Those and other dishes fill the menu, which also includes an ample selection of cocktails. The obvious drink choice: the frozen Jester, a blended concoction of strawberry kiwi, melon, Everclear, and dark rum served in a 22-ounce mug that looks like a court jester’s head.
