What You'll Get
He who laughs last laughs best, unless he doesn't finish laughing before the funeral starts. Empty your chuckle reservoirs in an appropriate setting with today's Groupon: for $20, you get tickets to your choice of one of four improv comedy shows at the Bovine Metropolis Theater.
Choose from the following options:
Two tickets to "On the Spot," Fridays at 8 p.m. (a $32 value)
Four tickets to "Makeshift Shakespeare," Fridays at 10:15 p.m. (a $40 value)
Two tickets to "Denver's Next Improv Star," Saturdays at 8 p.m. (a $32 value)
Four Tickets to "On the Spot," Saturdays at 10:15 p.m. (a $40 value)
Bovine Metropolis's improv shows showcase the hallmarks of extemporaneous humor through clever scenarios and even cleverer performers. Channeling the transatlantic comedians from TV’s Whose Line Is It Anyway?, "On the Spot" lets audiences control troupe members without the use of voodoo curses or irresponsible ventriloquism. Based on suggestions from Groupon holders and their fellow show-goers, each one-hour performance traps laughter in its natural habitat with bait including games, songs, and Rodney Dangerfield's lost respect.
In addition to traditional improv games, Bovine Metropolis also presents more specialized guffaw-grabbers. "Makeshift Shakespeare" stars an all-male troupe that puts a well-timed twist on some of the bard’s most beloved works. Pun-loving pugilists opt to take in "Denver's Next Improv Star", which tips its hat to the Romans' penchant for bloodlust and silly hats, by arming 14 improv players with only their wits as they stave off elimination during a medley of games and situations. Three judges will crown the funniest on April 9. Check out the theater’s website for more information on shows and dates.
Yelpers give the Bovine Metropolis Theater a 4.5-star average:
- Their shows embrace the joy of impromptu stage work with enthusiasm and skill, and they can be very funny and sometimes unexpectedly moving. Most shows are kid-friendly too, so you can bring the whole family and laugh. – Stephen W., Yelp
- This place is great. We went for "On the Spot." It is done in the style of "Whose line is it anyway?" and is just as good. – Daniel W., Yelp
