The Belgian beer and cuisine experts are celebrating Belgium's independence day with an unlimited feast from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21. Guests will be the first to taste Antigoon, brewed specially for Brasserie Beck's chef and named for a mythical giant who lived in Antwerp until he was killed by a Roman soldier and immortalized in this hilarious sculpture. The specialty brown ale is just one of 20 beers from faraway breweries such as Het Anker and Maredsous to be boozed on Belgium's birthday.

The liquor comes alongside the chef's favorite dishes: Brasserie Beck's famous mussels, dishes of grilled sausages, pork ribs, and seafood shepherd’s pie. Brasserie Beck, at 1101 K St., NW (in downtown and accessible by both the Metro Center and McPherson Square Metro stops), was of one of Washingtonian's 100 best restaurants in 2008 and 2009. Chef and owner Robert Wiedmaier is the 2009 Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington's Chef of the Year. Critics rave about how he energizes subtle Belgian flavors.
