With 14 Zumba classes a week—as well as yoga, R.I.P.P.E.D., Body Pump, and Barre(Total Core Training) sessions—Brickhouse Cardio Club keeps its vibrant green-and-blue studio jamming with energetic tunes and the sound of feet thumping the floor in rhythm. This haven for cardio is one of many locations of its kind, its success having spread the studio’s reach to many states, including West Virginia and Texas. This location’s special lighting and club vibe put the focus on having fun with each workout, but that doesn't get in the way of the serious sweating that takes place. Instructor Karen Taitano says she's seen many members slim down by two or more dress sizes.
Zumba's international beats and easy-to-imitate movements tone bodies with moves that draw from merengue, calypso, belly dancing, and other styles. This varied approach to dance fitness gets heart rates up more effectively than just doing the moonwalk for an hour, unless you’re moonwalking while carrying a piano. A specially designed floor goes easy on joints as students stretch themselves into yoga poses or strengthen physiques during R.I.P.P.E.D., and core training.
