Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
Members stay motivated because Zumba is so much fun. You get a great workout, but since you're having fun, you don't feel like you've worked out for an hour. Our classes are as much a social event as an exercise class. Women make friends and love to get together with them.
What's the most radical physical transformation you've seen a client make?
I had a member tell me that she went to a concert and danced, something she never would have done before Zumba. She said she felt more comfortable with her body and moving in front of people.
What is a typical session of your program or class like for a student?
Zumba classes consist of a warm-up song, 12-14 medium-to-high-energy songs and a cool down. We use a lot of Latin music with salsa, merengue, reggaeton, and other Latin dance to create a workout that's more like a dance party. Students have a great time with friends.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
We create an atmosphere where ladies feel comfortable to move their bodies without working out with body builders and hard-core fitness fanatics. Our instructors know everyone's names and make them feel welcome and good about participating.
Equipment: We don't use equipment, other than yoga mats.
Students should bring: Water, a towel, and tons of energy.
