Numerous ecological regulations impact our fish, yet few volunteers are interested in doing the hard work of registering them to vote. Canvass your local waterways with today's Groupon: for $16, you get a canoe or kayak rental plus a T-shirt (up to a $32 value) at Broad River Outpost in Danielsville. Broad River Outpost opens for the season on March 19.
Broad River Outpost has been facilitating the flotation of river wranglers with a bevy of equipment and advice for more than a quarter century. Take to the paddles from mid-March through October to traverse three sections of the Broad River, each catering to a different skill level, topography preference, and sneaker size. Sit-in, Keowee kayaks provide vehicular solitude for scenic trips of 5 or 10 miles, lasting between two and six hours. Traditional tandem canoes buoy romantic afternoon aqua-jaunts, which include sights such as bluffs, hardwood forests, and wildflowers. Daring scullers of all skill levels can perch on sit-on-top kayaks to confront the 6.5-mile, 3–4 hour course known as The Broad, where Class II rapids reign. Navigate down or around a 5-foot waterfall, letting nostalgia's splashes take you back to wedding showers and graduation-day face washings.
Consciences succumb to warm, fuzzy feelings as an eco-friendly bus, running on 100% recycled vegetable oil, shuttles expended paddlers back from map edges to their terrestrial vehicles. The Broad River Outpost also offers renters RV-free camping grounds and hot showers at no additional cost, though a $1 donation to the Broad River Watershed Association is encouraged to appease powerful multi-fish syndicates.
