Though mankind has conquered the world's tallest mountains, regular practice at indoor climbing gyms is the only thing keeping the vanquished peaks from rising up again. Prevent the Rockies' revolt with today's Groupon to Brooklyn Boulders. Choose from the following options:

  • For $29, you get one Learn to Boulder class—including a 30-minute class, a day pass, and gear rental (a $45 value)—an extra day pass (a $22 value), and shoe rental (a $6 value; a $73 total value).
  • For $49, you get a 60-minute private climbing lesson (a $100 value).
  • For $59, you get a one-month unlimited membership (up to a $120 value).
  • For $69, you get an all-inclusive climbing package for a family of up to four (a $150 value). This option is only valid on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Brooklyn Boulders lets climbers clamber over 22,000 square feet of artificial escarpment in a cavernous studio featured in a 2010 New York Times article. Skilled staff help students build a strong climbing foundation in the half-hour Learn to Boulder class, teaching safe spotting as novice wall scalers clamber along both X and Y axes before leaping into the cushiony arms of a 12-inch mat. Bouldering lessons are held on weekdays at 9 p.m. and on weekends at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. After the half-hour course, students may use the extra day pass and shoe rental for another day of challenging climbs with shoe-covered hands.

Customers seeking individualized instruction can opt for the one-hour private lesson, during which an experienced wall walker will custom-design a session to help improve a client's climbing techniques, ranging from bouldering to belaying to headlong scrabbling upward. Those who purchase this Groupon's membership option receive access to one month of unlimited climbing on Brooklyn Boulders' multirouted walls and a bevy of member benefits, including complimentary yoga classes, discounts at the retail store, and admission to exclusive events.

The all-inclusive climbing package lets wingless parents study styles of vertical locomotion during the Learn the Ropes and Learn to Boulder classes as trained staff members belay their kids (up to two) up and down scalable surfaces. After parents complete the crash courses in belaying and bouldering, families can spend the rest of the day practicing safe climbing techniques and judging each other's tarantula impersonations.

Brooklyn Boulders

Guests and members of all ages and skill levels experience and explore 22,000 square feet of climbing, fitness, yoga, weight training, events, art work, co-working, and creative inspiration. A dedicated route-setting staff organizes color-coded problems on craggy, angled top-rope walls as well as bouldering walls that reach up to 15 feet. To help visitors master these walls, seasoned instructors train them in three basic types of climbing: bouldering, top-rope climbing, or lead climbing. To ease stressed muscles and promote calm reflection, staffers also lead all-ages yoga lessons and monthly yoga workshops.

Brooklyn Boulders also injects creativity into its special events and spaces, which encourage co-working, socializing, and community. Staffers invite local graffiti artists to display their murals inside, work to preserve regional climbing areas by partnering with Access Fund, and coordinate programs through its BKB Foundation—a nonprofit that provides greater access to rock climbing for kids and adults.
