Spanish pianist Joaquin Achúcarro joins South Florida's own Symphony of the Americas for an evening of classical music at Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale. Achúcarro is an internationally recognized performer, a knight of Spain and a UNESCO "Artist for Peace." The program includes Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2 in C minor. One of the Russian composer's most joyful compositions, this symphony was influenced by Ukrainian folk songs and is also known as the "Little Russian." Also on the program: In the Steppes of Central Asia by Alexander Borodin, a symphonic poem that's been a concert favorite for over 130 years, and Spanish composer Manuel de Falla's lush, impressionistic Nights in the Gardens of Spain.
