What You'll Get
Like an overzealous mama bird, The Brown Bag Deli has been feeding hundreds of hungry mouths over its 30-plus years in existence. Join the nest with today’s deal: for $5, you get $10 worth of sandwiches, soups, salads, and more at this German Village mainstay. This is a popular lunch spot, but it's also open for dinner. Please don't neglect dinner, as he hates when his little brother gets all the attention and will most likely react by putting mashed potatoes in your hair while you sleep.
The casual nature of The Brown Bag Deli is as highly enticing as the delicious odors seeping out of the restaurant's kitchen. In the warm months, you can find patio seating, which extends the cozy confines. It's a great place to meet a friend for lunch or to sit across from a mirror with a goatee Sharpied onto it, eating with your bizarro self. When you've found the proper place to plunk down in the restaurant, it's time for the hard part: figuring out what to order—while simultaneously reciting the Greek alphabet backwards and arm wrestling a left-handed female body builder.
One of the most popular sandwiches on the menu is the village addiction (sourdough bread stuffed with smoked turkey and Havarti with cranberry mayo, $7.25). Another crowd-pleaser from its 12-specialty-sandwich lineup is the mohawk stroller (smoked turkey, roasted red pepper, basil, pesto, and sprouts on a cheddar herb roll, $6.75). Pick up a cup of black-bean soup ($3.25) or a heartier bowl of beef chili ($5.25) to accompany or make up your meal. Other salads and sides include the Peter Piper peppers salad (yellow and orange bell peppers, red onion, garbanzo beans, and chicken on a bed of lettuce, $7.99), a pint of macaroni salad ($5), or a pint of red-skin potato salad ($7). All the food on the menu is made from scratch by the owner and her team of helper tree elves who work together to pause time while she whips up the goods.
Yelpers and Citysearchers both give The Brown Bag Deli a near-perfect 4.5 stars. Insider Pages users give it a solid four-star rating, while TripAdvisors give it four owl eyes, praising the scrumptious sustenance:
