What You'll Get
Laugher is the best medicine, unless a gang of clowns attacked the patient. Laugh away your pain with today’s Groupon: for $12, you get an improv-comedy night for two, which includes two tickets and two drinks, at Brown Improv Comedy (a $30 value). Shows take place at 12 Bar on Fulton Street on Fridays from 9 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
The six-person cast of Brown Improv Comedy coaxes laughter from audiences with live, on-the-fly performances about relevant subjects. After soliciting topical suggestions from theatergoers, bar patrons, and Shakespeare's ghost, the jesterly troupe cajoles chortles with games and skits themed around current events and crowd interaction. One of the group’s popular games, freeze tag, recruits spectators to replace cast members on center stage, creating new scenes while also forcing stage members to dabble with liquid nitrogen. During the set, viewers can swap smirks over two sodas or well drinks and moisten their palates for postperformance shouts of approval. Guests at Brown Improv Comedy must have at least 18 years of postnatal experience to attend a show, and must tout 21 years to indulge in well drinks. Peruse the online calendar for upcoming performances.
