He who laughs last laughs best, unless he doesn't finish laughing before the funeral starts. Empty your chuckle reservoirs in an appropriate setting with today's Groupon: for $10, you get admission for two to an upcoming Brown improv-comedy show (up to a $20 value). Currently, shows—for age 21+ only—are scheduled at 8:30 p.m. every Saturday at City Bar in Metairie. During the show, City Bar’s generous barkeeps will offer $2 domestic beers to all guests with a Groupon voucher in hand.
One of the longest-running improv comedy show in New Orleans, Brown has established itself as a no-frills destination for on-the-fly fun. Six guffaw gurus induce laughter with unscripted skits and games during each performance. Games such as "freeze tag" coax chuckles as audience and cast members substitute themselves on stage, creating new scenes, while also forcing actors to exit over hockey boards. Other audience-guided games, such as "columns," force cast members to maintain scenes amidst nonsensical shout-outs from the crowd.
As of April 19, 2011, Brown improv-comedy shows are no longer being held at City Bar. See Brown's calendar for show dates and locations.
