What You'll Get
Wine was once such an expensive commodity that the rich conspicuously spilled it on their golden capes instead of wasting it invisibly in their stomachs. Afford enough wine to braggadociously spill it with today's Groupon: for $9, you get one ticket to a wine tasting (an $18 value) at Bruning's Wine Cellar in Beavercreek. Each tasting includes two-ounce pours of five wines and palate-cleansing cheeses, cured meats, and crackers, as well as live guitar from Bruning's Wine Cellar owner Mike to accompany the sweet sound of swishing. Select from two tastings on four dates:
- Sbragia Family Vineyards on Wednesday, August 4th, 5 p.m.–8 p.m.
- Sbragia Family Vineyards on Saturday, August 7th, 3 p.m.–6 p.m.
- "Que Será, Syrah, Shiraz" on Wednesday, August 11th, 5 p.m.–8 p.m.
- "Que Será, Syrah, Shiraz" on Saturday, August 14th, 3 p.m.–6 p.m.
Ed Sbragia of the Sbragia Family Vineyards is famous for his chardonnay and cabernet. Included in the Sbragia Family Vineyards tastings are two varietals: Home Ranch chardonnay ($26.99/bottle) and Andolsen Vineyard cabernet sauvignon ($35.99/bottle). From his experience at Beringer, Ed Sbragia also knows the inner grape workings of dozens of other varietals, knowledge applied to the creation of the three other tastable bottlings: the Home Ranch sauvignon blanc ($20.99/bottle), Home Ranch merlot ($26.99/bottle), and Gino's Vineyard zinfandel ($28.99/bottle).
Three of the wines in the "Que Será, Syrah, Shiraz" tastings will be syrahs or shirazes, each hailing from a different country: Owen Roe Ex Umbris syrah ($29.99/bottle) from the U.S., Glaetzer Bishop shiraz ($34.99/bottle) from Australia, and Domaine Jean-Louis Chave St. Joseph Offerus ($32.99/bottle) from France. To balance out the red wine dominance, two white wines from Anne Amie Vineyards, the pinot gris ($18.99/bottle) and the pinot blanc ($19.99/bottle), will be included in the flight.
The tastings are casual; arrive anytime during the tasting, at least an hour before the tasting closes, to have time to enjoy the entire flight. Bruning's Wine Cellar owner Mike is also a ninth-generation clock maker, so in addition to a ticket to the wine flight, Groupon holders will get 13% off of the stock of clocks and furniture, including wine cabinets, in Bruning's Clock and Home Accent Store.
