After inventing geometry and physics, Greeks invented history—primarily as a way to document their many inventions. Take a stroll through history with today’s Groupon to the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society on Nottingham Court. Choose from the following three options:
- For $35, you get a one-year grandparent membership for two adults at the same address and up to four grandchildren under the age of 16, plus two tickets to a Party on the Portico event (a $70 value).
- For $32, you get a one-year individual membership plus two tickets to a Party on the Portico event (a $65 value).
- For $40, you get a one-year family membership for two adults and any children under the age of 16 at the same address, plus two tickets to a Party on the Portico event (an $80 value).
The Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society commemorates the Niagara Frontier's storied history in a building that is itself recognized as a National Historic Landmark. More than 100,000 artifacts in a rotating gallery of exhibits preserve insights on notable subjects such as the 1901 Pan-American Exposition. Membership privileges include free museum admission, access to exhibition previews, a 10% museum-shop discount on most items, and a license to impersonate Millard Fillmore at parties. Each summer, the Party on the Portico brings together cheery Erie-ites for a live music celebration for ages 21 and up that is held on a Friday evening in June, July, and August (2011 dates TBD).
Although the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society has yet to receive many online reviews, more than 1,700 Facebookers are fans.
