Spending eight seconds on a buckin’ bull is akin to two hours in a tornado, one hour in a paint shaker, and one second of a singing telegram from Gilbert Gottfried. Lasso a bargain with today’s Groupon: for $5, you get two tickets to see C-T Rodeo's Winter Rodeo & Wild West Show (up to a $14 value) at the I-27 and Fourth Street Fairgrounds. Children under six get in free.
Since 1970, only the best and bravest cowboys and cowgirls have dared to tame the wild mares and spur the wrath of raging bulls at C-T Rodeo. The 35th year of the Lubbock Winter Rodeo & Wild West Show kicks off with a cloven hoof and a solid stable of certified PBR (Professional Bull Riding) and PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) buckaroos. These pros vie alongside up-and-coming tenderfoots, all in an attempt to lasso the gold buckle. Watch bucking broncos and wild bulls attempt to toss and vaunt vaqueros. Rodeo clowns, the only clowns that don’t traumatize children, wait ringside to throw pies in case the ride goes awry. Other events include whiplash barrel racing, demanding chute dogging, and the all-new mutton busting, in which small whippersnappers dare to make it eight woolly seconds on sheepback. Children are advised to remember that the cowboys and cowgirls are all trained professionals, so rodeo stunts should not be tried at home, on the family dog, or on dad-back.
