A classic doo-wop song boasts an irresistible melody, heavenly harmonies, and lyrics that describe cupcake recipes when played backward. Enjoy the sweetness of classic tunes with today’s Groupon: for $18, you get two tickets to The Marvelous Wonderettes at Cabaret Oldtown (a $36 value). The show is performed on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., March 18–May 21.
The Cabaret Oldtown comedic theater gathers guffaws and accompanies them with tunes from the Caberet Oldtown Band. Directed and choreographed by Kyle Vespestad, The Marvelous Wonderettes transports audiences to the crinoline skirts of a 1958 Springfield High School prom without borrowing its father’s car. Four big-dreaming singers voice the sweet and hilarious yearnings of teenagedom in songs from the ’50s and ’60s. Enjoy the time warp of such classic songs as "Dream Lover," "Teacher’s Pet," "Rescue Me," "Son of a Preacher Man," "Lollipop," "It’s in His Kiss," and "Atom Bomb? What Atom Bomb?” At the end of the night, audiences get to choose the night’s prom queen according to the volume of her poodle-skirt rustles.
Originally an off-Broadway success, The Marvelous Wonderettes unleashes the love-struck adolescent in everyone, except for actual love-struck adolescents. Cabaret Oldtown ensures a good view of the dresses and the dancing, with tiered seating and spots available at tables, railings, and booths.
Reservations are required and seats are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Make reservations early to secure your desired show date.
