Theatergoers set sail on the high seas of entertainment at Cabaret Red Light’s fourth show developed for Gazela, a vaudevillian tale of piracy that features swashbuckling, gypsy swing music, burlesque dancing, and other delightful debaucheries. The Man from Orphan Island follows pirates Calico Jack, Mary Read, and Anne Bonny as they cast their anchors on the shores of the mysterious Orphan Island, home to a lonely vaudevillian with an ambiguous past and an army of mechanical wooden children at his disposal.
Philadelphia’s most talented vaudeville performers test their sea legs on the deck of the Gazela, a 110-year-old vessel that lends an ideal setting to the troupe’s mix of dark comedy, burlesque, and original live music. Aspiring pirates can enjoy jugs of homemade rum on the gangplank at this BYOB venue, which benefits from half of each ticket price going to ship preservation.
Because Cabaret Red Light’s performances contain elements of adult entertainment, minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Click here for information about parking, transportation, and rain dates.
