"Eat!" That's what mangia means in Italian, and it's what Cafe Mangia enthusiastically encourages. And thanks to the restaurant's wealth of made-from-scratch Italian dishes, mangia is an easy command to obey. Here, organic herbs grow in glasses on countertops before they make their way onto pizzas, such as the shiitake, tomato, and garlic with local farm-culled ingredients or the braised Pennsylvania-pork osso bucco. Daily specials take the form of whole-wheat fettucini topped with chicken sausage and homemade crab-and-shrimp cannelloni.
The food isn't the only draw at Cafe Mangia. The homey environs lend themselves to more than just meals that taste like they've been cooked in an Italian countryside kitchen. Chefs are on hand to lead kids' cooking classes, teaching them the techniques to create everything from perfectly spiced marinara sauce to hand-tossed pizzas.
