In 1977, Sergio Azzolini opened his first coffeehouse on Columbus Avenue after arriving from Italy. A dozen years later, his sons, Anthony and Sergio, picked up the family's coffee-fueled torch by founding Caffe Roma. Today, Caffe Roma serves freshly brewed cups at locations in North Beach, Millbrae, and SoMa. Inside these spotless and cozy coffee shops, patrons sip creative blends while noshing on breakfast and lunch foods. In the morning, they dig into plates of scrambled eggs, sausage, and spinach; later in the day, they crunch into grilled chicken panini sandwiches stacked with gruyere, caramelized onions, and pesto. Conveniently, fans of Caffe Roma's blends can also have fresh-roasted bags shipped to them so they can brew coffee at home.
