Caleb and Broad
Even though it only opened last year, Caleb and Broad has hauled in a mess of awards, ranging from Newport Life magazine's Best New Business of 2015 to the Mercury Love Awards' Editor's Pick. And with one look at the menu, it should come as no surprise. In a dining room characterized by pop and graffiti art, the staff serves up what owner Rich Willis calls upgraded bar food—or, put another way, fine dining's street-smart cousin. The chef, Ryan Loeven, whips up a short rib taco, for example, that swaps out the ground beef and traditional fixin's for braised short rib, fig jam, feta, and au jus for a flavor combo that keeps mouths guessing. And for properly decadent bar food snacks, the chefs whip up jalapeño parmesan popcorn and fried chicken skins with veggie gravy.
The cocktails pull a few stunts of their own, such as adding blueberry to a classic mojito.
