Led by the California Arts Academy’s dedicated instructors, groups of youngsters aged 7–13 form talent teams with which they tackle the onstage and behind-the-scenes musical-theater tenets, such as acting, singing, music, dance, and stagecraft. Art and physical-education classes round out the experience, and a final performance for friends and family displays each participant’s burgeoning entertainment and self-expression skills. For tykes aged 3–6, the summer arts camp brims with arts-and-crafts, singing, and creative-dance classes with an emphasis on kindness and etiquette. Camps meet from Monday to Friday. Early drop-off is at 8 a.m., and classes take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon; late pickup extends through 12:30 p.m.
California Arts Academy
With eclectic backgrounds, the staff of California Arts Academy brings students their own distinctive expertise and worldviews. They strive to help students not only become better performers, but also positive members of the community. Backed by a cadre of instructors, the duo strives to create a space where kids can freely express themselves through gymnastics and musical theater and can elaborate tap-dance routines that summon the ghost of Fred Astaire. California Arts Academy was also named Favorite for Children's Dance Classes, Art Classes, and Live Theater by the readers of Central California Parent magazine from 2012 to 2014. Not content to just offer classes, the Academy holds semiannual auditions for their performances.
