What You'll Get
Mediterranean cuisine is renowned for the way its rich ingredients inspire innovative food-fighting techniques. Skillfully execute the Kebab Eye Jab or the Hummus Humdinger with today’s Groupon: for $10, you get $20 worth of Middle Eastern cuisine and drinks at California Mediterranean Grill in Encino.
California Mediterranean Grill, which was formerly known as Amer's Falafel, populates its menu with traditional Mediterranean recipes handed down through several generations inside the secret compartments of pitas. Starting with a California Mediterranean salad ($6.95), guests can graze on organic mixed greens intermingling with cucumbers, tomatoes, palm hearts, black olives, pine nuts, and chickpeas. Heartier entrees include the shish kabob pita with grilled lamb, chicken, or beef served in a fresh taboon-fired pita or laffa loaf ($7.35), or the signature falafel plate with 10 spicily scrumptious falafel balls ($8.75). For a dentist-defying dessert, sink a sweet tooth into the baklava cookie’s traditional pistachio- and honey-filled flakiness ($1.85) or a slice of Sicilian-inspired tiramisu ($4.95).
California Mediterranean Grill has plenty thirst quenchers to help mingle the myriad flavors, such as Prigat, grape, or grapefruit juice ($2.25), or a glass of non-alcoholic Mediterranean black beer ($2.50). While sipping and feasting, gaze around the outdoor patio or inside the restaurant, where flat-screen TVs and contemporary décor inspire the stomach to finally end its lengthy strike and once again perform its job of directing food traffic.
The LA Times featured California Mediterranean Grill when it was simply known as Amer's Falafel, calling it a "no-frills Israeli restaurant." Also under the old name, the restaurant snagged an average of four stars from Yelpers and a unanimous five stars from Citysearchers. Under the new California Mediterranean Grill marquee, it grabs an average of four stars from three Yelpers.
- what i liked about this place was that it's falafel was cooked to order, and the turkey/lamb was nice and hot; and the portions were big enough to feed a glutton. – xavier a., Yelp
- Why did we wait so long to eat there? The ambiance is very warm and welcoming and the food is the simply the best middle eastern food I have ever tasted. What they call their laffa bread makes the chicken shawarma I had very tasty and filling. The falafel is delicious and the garlic sauce was so good I took one home with me. – BenandMaya, Citysearch
- I have to say that the amount of food that came on the plate was a nice surprise. If I was not too hungry when I went, I'm almost positive I would not have finished it all. – Ilya T., Yelp

About California Mediterranean Grill (Or Amer's Falafel)
The chefs at California Mediterranean Grill flavor Middle Eastern fare according to generations-old recipes the owners brought with them from Israel 26 years ago. After passing under crimson umbrellas into the café, patrons inhale the scent of thick laffa bread baking in a clay oven and hear the sizzle of juicy burgers and falafel balls frying atop grills. More than 14 salads fill plates with doctor-recommended amounts of vegetables, and kebabs culled from lean cuts of beef and garlic-marinated morsels of chicken supply bodies with healthy sources of vital proteins. For moderately sized meals, diners can thoughtfully share portions of tabouleh, hummus, baba ghanouj and other mezzes.
