All families decorate their homes for the holidays their own way: some create winter dioramas, some wrap their roofs with garland, and some ornament driveways with a forest of desiccated trees from previous Christmases. Enjoy large-scale holiday beautification with today's Groupon: for $24, you get admission for two to see the Callaway Gardens Fantasy In Lights in Pine Mountain (up to a $50 value). The show runs nightly from November 19 through December 30.
At Fantasy In Lights, carloads of seasonal celebrators travel along a seven-mile drive of festive landscapes illuminated with more than eight million individual bulbs. More than a dozen unique holiday scenes populated with animated and static pieces transform the wooded setting of Callaway Gardens into a Technicolor forest of snowflakes and Christmas trees. Leagues of leaping lords chase flocks of phosphorescent partridges and swans on the 12 Days of Christmas display, while a fluorescent family skates over one of the gardens' ponds in the Skating Party scene. Each luminous layout’s sound system complements the environment with sound effects or music, and the Nativity and Night Before Christmas scenes present mixed-media shows combining narration, music, and choreographed lights for full seasonal sensory submersion.
Parents and children experiencing Noel-mania can take a break at the Christmas Village to find new pieces of holiday décor, munch on seasonal snacks, or ask Santa to bring them a new set of tie clips. Revelers can reserve their vehicle a space in the yuletide caravan, or merry-makers can choose to bundle up and ride together on the Jolly Trolley.
- "Nestled amidst wooded landscape of Callaway Gardens, Fantasy in Lights is the Southeast's most spectacular holiday light and sound show with more than eight million twinkling lights." - Rex Vogel, Examiner
More than 50 species of butterflies flit between the petals of an ever-changing array of exotic plants inside the greenhouse as sunlight streams in through the glass ceilings. Outside, experts launch owls and falcons into the air to fly—and many come back down to land on the arms of the trainers. Since 1952, the staffers of Callaway Gardens’ educational nature preserve have immersed visitors in their passion for wildlife management and conservation across more than 6,500 acres of demonstration gardens, arboretums, and outdoor sports attractions.
At the 5-acre Horticultural Center, visitors wander through three conservatories, a grotto, and an outdoor garden and stand at the base of a 22-foot indoor waterfall. They can also soar up to 30 feet above the forest floor on a 10-zipline treetop course replete with ladders, logs, and swings or practice their lumberjack calls on a 10-mile discovery bicycle trail through the trees. Staffers regularly lead guided hikes through the woods, and help facilitate seasonal events—including circus, music, and theater performances and a holiday light show. On overnight stays, they welcome guests into lodgings such as a rustic inn, 155 secluded pine cottages, and 57 stone and wood villas with balconies.
