On Saturday, February 21, Caramillo Ranch (itself a popular wedding venue) transforms into a wonderland of wedding fashions, services, and other necessities from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Guests can explore the booths of dressmakers, decorators, caterers, bakeries, and wineries throughout the afternoon. At 3 p.m., it’s time for the grand finale: a runway show of the latest wedding-gown styles.
First-time visitors to the Camarillo Ranch House might be struck with a profound sense of deja vu. The explanation? They've seen certain reruns of Gilligan's Island or The Incredible Hulk, or, if they're a little older, TV ads for Polaroid or Country Time Lemonade. The home's Queen Anne architecture—dating to 1892—and lush landscape have acted in the background of several movies, TV shows, and commercials. Attached stables have housed the Camarillo White Horses, who performed at area festivities including the Santa Barbara Fiesta and Pasadena Rose Parades for more than 60 years.
Today, the house plays host to more than 150 special events every year, including festivals and weddings. When the parties aren't in full swing, tour groups pass through the Ranch's rooms, exploring rotating exhibits and learning about the philanthropic legacy of Adolfo Camarillo, one of Ventura County's first citizens.
