Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory

Fluttering wings fill the sky in a flash of colour as more than 2,000 free-flying tropical butterflies take off across Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory. Ranging in colour and size, the insects hail from both Costa Rica and the Philippines and include 40 different species, such as the Blue Morpho butterfly, the Emerald Swallowtail, and the Owl butterfly. With the help of a full-time traffic-control tower, the butterflies share the airspace with exotic bird species, while larger creatures such as red-eared slider turtles patrol the ground. Along with the flurry of flapping wings, the Conservatory buzzes with the giggles of children as they explore a vast insect collection as well as an observation honeybee hive and fill their tummie with treats from the cafe.

Customer Reviews

It was very interesting, very informative and loved the interaction with the butterflies, birds, etc. Got to video a butterfly coming out of its cocoon.

We found the conservatory beautiful and so relaxing. The birds butterflies and vegetation are spectacular. It is very educational for children and adults. The children were on scavenger hunt like tour. They were not only having fun but learning about the wooly bear. Later they grouped together and had a hands on ( if they wanted to touch) with the instructor . We actually watched a butterfly emerge from it's cocoon. A great place!!😀
