Spooky is the most neglected of the five basic human emotions: spooky, joy, sorrow, grouchy, and wet. Get horror glands pumping with today’s Groupon to Camp Fear in Hiddenite. Choose between the following options:

  • For $18, you get admission for two adults (a $36 value).
  • For $26, you get admission for two adults and two children aged 10 or younger (up to a $64 value).

Camp Fear tingles spines with spooky haunted walkabouts that are tailored to customers’ personal fears. On a scary trip that can last up to 45 minutes, visitors make their way through haunted attractions such as a rock maze inhabited by half-dead guides, a spinning vortex, and an insane asylum filled with crazed patients and the echoing choruses of the Top-40 hits that made them that way. Stop by to check up on the insane patient named Daniel whose fate remains a mystery until the electrifying end of the tour, or attend a treacherous tea party in the Living Dead Dollhouse. Camp Fear will happily accommodate younger visitors whose stomachs can’t handle the intensity by scaling back the scariness on request or by having the ghosts stand around tap-dancing. Hot dogs, funnel cake, candy apples, and other fried fare are on-site to calm any anxious nerves, while free hot chocolate and goodie bags send spooked spirits home with a delicious souvenir.

Though Camp Fear offers discounts for military personnel and special events, this Groupon still represents the best value.

Camp Fear

A disfigured outcast in his community, Daniel bonded with the rats, snakes, and spiders in the nearby woods. After he was caught tying up a neighbor and emitting odd hissing noises, his parents locked him away in a mental institution. When Daniel escaped, he stole dental tools from his father and took to the trees, where he still stalks his next victims whenever he’s not busy recruiting birds for his whistling choir. Daniel is only one among many sadistic figures lurking on Camp Fear’s petrifying trail. There, half-dead guides haunt the rock maze, spooky dolls occupy the living-dead dollhouse, maniacal patients clamber about the insane asylum, and creepy clowns terrify passersby at Clown Chaos.

I thought I had made a mistake because Daniel and his mother were kind of cheesy, but the trail was well made and genuinly scary. Overall it was great and we will be back next year. And the apple cider/ hot chocolate was an excellent bonus!
