Camp Karma Campground
To understand what Camp Karma Campground means by "primitive camping," it might be helpful to look at its list of amenities. Picnic table, fire rings, lantern hangers, and a recreation field make a list whose only real intrusion from modern technology comes from the 20/30 amp electric hookups. But when you're smack-dab in the middle of the Appalachian Trail with access to the pristine Goose Creek, the scenic surroundings are the real draw.
But that's not to say the camp is in the middle of nowhere. Despite the feeling of isolation created by the heavily wooded campsite, getting to the diners, wineries, and marinas with boat rental of downtown Moneta only takes about five minutes by car or 25 minutes on moose-back. And if you get tired of fishing or swimming in the creek, Smith Mountain Lake with its 500 miles of mountainous shoreline is only about 8 miles away.
