Situated on a mountain top overlooking 500 acres of nature preserve, Camp Top of the Pines is a scenic summer camp for children to spend two weeks swimming, boating, fishing, and hiking. The camp, which divides its 100–150 campers into four age group (entering grades 1–3, 4–5, 6–7, and 8–9), focuses on friendship and community building, all while helping children develop self-confidence and a love for the outdoors.
With separate camps for children age 7–13 and for teens up to 17 years old, Camp Vacamas offers a three-week adventure amid 230 wooded acres. Campers will head to the waterfront for swimming, boating, and fishing, challenge their climbing skills on an indoor rock wall, and even enhance their culinary prowess at the culinary arts center. Teens in particular will be able to choose between hiking along the Appalachian Trail, canoeing down the Delaware River, rock climbing in the Northern New Jersey forests, and biking through the Pennsylvania Dutch Amish country.
A lot has changed since Camp Vacamas’ founding in 1924—for one, the camp is now co-ed—but its number one mission persists: to empower young people. Spread across 230 wooded acres, the camp offers ample opportunity for children to develop relationships with nature and one another, whether going an on overnight trip, swimming in the private 50-acre lake, or while biking through Pennsylvania Dutch country. Parents can enroll their children and teens in one of several programs, including two- or three-week sleep-away camps and day camps. No matter the program, campers will be exposed to a wealth of learning experiences pertaining to social skills, confidence, making new friends, and best practices for roasting marshmallows.
