Tchaikovsky's ballet masterpiece The Nutcracker gets a hip-hop remix as 11 all-star dancers, DJ Boo and digital scenery transplant the holiday favorite to New York City. Pirouettes are replaced with popping, and Tchaikovsky's iconic score gets a modern mash-up with an electric violinist and DJ. The evening-length show celebrates love, family and the magic of New Year's Eve. Opening night features a short set by legendary MC Kurtis Blow. Elle Magazine calls The Hip Hop Nutcracker "A truly one-of-a-kind experience, filled with high-powered choreography and a very modern storyline."
The second show is a benefit for UPCA’s youth arts programs and opens with student performances.
Running time is two and a half hours, including one intermission.
