Guest conductor Edo de Waart follows up his successful SDSO debut last season with this Jacobs Music Center concert of contrasting musical styles featuring Grammy-winning violinist James Ehnes. Pulitzer Prize-winning American minimalist John Adams had a breakthrough with his 1985 piece, Harmonielehre, which is the German phrase for “Study of Harmony,” after a dream cured him of writer’s block. Soloist James Ehnes, a Grammy-winning Canadian violinist who’s acclaimed for his technical brilliance and poetic style, then joins the orchestra for Beethoven’s captivating and lyrical Violin Concerto.
