What You'll Get
Born Jewish, raised in India, educated by nuns and Zoroastrian teachers, artist Siona Benjamin is a one-person melting pot, or as one astonished critic called her, a one-woman “rainbow.” These diverse influences have all contributed to her vibrant paintings, which blend Talmudic, Hindu and Islamic references with elements of contemporary Western art. Now Blue Like Me, an acclaimed documentary film from filmmaker Hal Rifken, investigates the remarkable life and work of a very special artist. See the documentary, which coincides with the official opening of the Blue Like Me exhibition in the Bodzin Art Gallery, and meet Benjamin, Ryan Arey, the film’s editor, and special guest Ori Soltes, theology, philosophy and art history professor at Georgetown University, in person during a screening and Q&A at the Jewish Community Center of Northern Virginia.
