What You'll Get
The freewheeling brilliance of Big Dance Theater comes to D.C. with its mesmerizing combinations of movement, theater, video and idiosyncratic imagination. For its latest show at American Dance Institute, Short Form, the New York company digs into its repertory, training its penetrating gaze on literary works including short stories, poetry, love letters and even text messages. Works include a vignette inspired by the writings of Hijikata, who created the Japanese modern dance form Butoh; a piece referencing the children's classic story "Heidi"; and two abstract dances inspired by the music of Stravinsky. A complimentary champagne reception with the Big Dance Theater artists follows the Friday and Saturday shows.
