Experience a Twin Cities holiday tradition as Myron Johnson's Nutcracker (not so) Suite returns in a new production with James Sewell Ballet. Johnson's inventive remix of this Christmas classic goes back to E.T.A. Hoffman's original tale for a grittier coming-of-age story while injecting it with fresh music and choreography and a setting that changes every year. The new production transports the story to 1960s New York and is chock-full of colorful characters, including a life-size Barbie doll and beatnik stand-ins for the rats. A lively score of Christmas carols colliding with hip-hop and R&B brings the whole thing to life at The Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts.
