The sacred choral ensemble known as the Lutheran Choir of Chicago brings a modern, ethereal sound to their holiday concert, celebrating The Star as a Christmas symbol and guiding light. Along with works by Rutter, Lauridsen and Mendelssohn, the centerpiece of this show at Saints Peter and Paul Lutheran in Riverside is Estampe Natalis by Czech-American composer Vaclav Nelhybel, that adds accompaniment from a string quartet, percussion and a piccolo to its soaring vocals. Ably led by artistic director Wilbert O. Watkins, who holds a Ph.D. in music education and conducting, the LCC has been lifting their heavenly voices in song for more than 65 years.
The concert is scheduled to run 90 minutes.
